Effective February 15th, 2019, The Water Works & Sewer Board of the City of Winfield will increase the minimum water rate to $18.00 and the minimum sewer rate to $18.00. Customers with a minimum bill, which is for 2000 gallons, or less, during the billing cycle, will be charged $36.72. For customers using more than the 2000 gallon minimum, an additional amount of $5.00 per 1000 gallons will be charged for water and an additional $5.00 for sewer. This rate increase will be reflected on all customers March 2019 bills.
The Winfield Water Works & Sewer Board uses its best efforts in controlling its costs in order to keep its rates as low as possible. However, this rate increase is financially necessary due to required upgrades at the water filter plant and sewer lagoon. These upgrades, regulated by EPA and required by ADEM, will allow our utility to continue to maintain and improve services and meet the growing needs of our community.
ALSO, due to policy changes regarding utility accounts, account billing and bill collection, any Utility bill not paid in full by the 25th day of the month by 4:30 p.m. will be assessed a $50.00 service fee per account. In addition, the service will be disconnected for this account. Before service to the account is re-connected, the account shall be paid in full, which shall include a $50.00 service charge. If an account remains unpaid by the 3rd day of the following month, the account will be closed. To re-establish service, an account origination fee will be required and any unpaid balance shall be paid in full.
